Their brawl took a serious turn and led to boycotting of spot valuation of degree answer sheets going on at the examination branch. Tension prevailed in the campus, as supporters of both the rivals staged demonstration seeking action against the each other.
Warangal: An argument over a petty issue led to exchange of blows between a contract lecturer and an assistant professor at Kakatiya University examination branch, here on Saturday. Their brawl took a serious turn and led to boycotting of spot valuation of degree answer sheets going on at the examination branch. Tension prevailed in the campus, as supporters of both the rivals staged demonstration seeking action against the each other.
According to the police, the contract lecturer called Jula Satyanarayana who was supposed to attend the valuation work, turned up an hour late. By that time, the door of the valuation hall located on the first floor of the examination branch was closed. Satyanarayana expressed anger over closing of the door and demanded attender to open it. Later, he picked up an argument with the valuation camp officer, A Narender, an assistant professor and urged him to open it.
The heated arguments between the two, turned out into a full blown clash, as contractual lecturer allegedly beat up A.Narender inflicting bleeding injuries on him. In retaliation, the regular staff present at the valuation hall thrashed Satyanarayana and tore down his clothes. A group of students gathered at the examination branch supporting the contractual lecturer. Meanwhile, the police entered the scene and brought the situation undercontrol.
Hanamkonda circle inspector V Kiran and DSP P Shoban Kumar listened to the versions of the both the groups and received complaints from Later, Narender and Satyanarayana were shifted to local government hospital for medical examination. DSP Shoban Kumar informed that the contractual lecturer wanted a case booked against the assistant professor Narender under SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act.
However, cases would be registered under relevant sections after thoroughly examining the incident, he added. Meanwhile, the office bearers of Association of Kakatiya University Teachers (AKUT) convened an emergency meeting on the campus to discuss the development. The association president Prof. M Sarangapani, its leader V Krishna Reddy and others strongly condemned the attack on assistant professor Narender. They demanded the KU authorities to provide security to the spot valuation camp officials.
