Hyderabad: Neelima, a software employee of Cognizant, Hyderabad, reportedly returned to safety in New Delhi on Friday from the devastated Everest Base Camp, safe and sound after aborting her 'arduous' trek to the Everest Base Camp.Speaking to the media here, she claimed she had been to Pokhara (located to the North West of Kathmandu) on the way to the Everest Base camp (located in the North East.of Kathmandu) and when the earthquake struck, turned back from near the Everest Base Camp.
Neelima claimed she and her team of six other trekkers were desperate to continue ahead to reach the base camp. But the sherpas and other trekkers and mountaineers returning from the Everest Camps warned them against it. She said she also saw some bodies on the way back.
"Media should recognise people like us and note the risks we take not only when such tragedies occur but during the normal times too", she suggested to the media. She it said she could contact her coordinator within an hour of the earthquake but took two days to contact her uncle. She could speak to her father from Delhi, only when the channels interviewing her arranged for it.
