The V&E which has kept a close vigil in the state to curb illegal extraction and transportation of sand, keeping in view of the Telangana State Sand Mining Rules (TSSMR) 2015, formulated as per the new Sand Mining Policy 2014, detected 305 illegal cases.

Hyderabad: The TS Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) Department officials detected 305 illegal sand transportation cases and collected penalties to the tune of Rs 1.15 crore. The V&E which has kept a close vigil in the state to curb illegal extraction and transportation of sand, keeping in view of the Telangana State Sand Mining Rules (TSSMR) 2015, formulated as per the new Sand Mining Policy 2014, detected 305 illegal cases.


The V&E sleuths conducted surprise raids on the illegal sand excavating areas and illegal sand stocks. During the period from February to April, the sleuths detected 305 cases and collected a penalty of Rs 1.15 crore. As many as 241 cases were booked on vehicles transporting sand illegally from different areas of Telangana State and collected penalty of Rs 87.2 lakhs while 23 cases were booked on vehicles carrying sand in excess of the quantity specified in the transit pass and collected Rs 7.95 lakh as penalty and Rs 20 lakh penalty was collected in 41 cases for vehicles transporting sand from AP.


“Apart from these violations, illegal sand dumps have also been detected and seized in different places in Mahabubnagar and Karimnagar districts and action initiated for disposal of seized sand as per rules. In addition, action was initiated for realisation of penalty to the government against the overload sand transporting vehicles against the permitted capacity by the Transport Department as per MV Act,” Director General (V&E) TP Das said adding that officials were instructed to take stringent action against violators as per provision of Rule 13(3) of TSSMR 2015.
