With the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao going to lay foundation stone to initiate the project, the authorities have taken up initial works of ground leveling and construction of a foundation plate. Agitated with officials move, people set ablaze the tent, which was erected at the site of the thermal power plant and raised slogans against the state government.

Getting to know about the incident, the Damarcharla police rushed to the spot and shifted the agitators to the police station. Earlier, speaking to the media, ZPTC of Damaracharla Shanker Naik reminded that the local people have also registered protest before in a public hearing, which was conducted by the officials and demanded a clear-cut announcement on the compensation package to the local people, who would lose their lands.


He demanded that the government should announce Rs 20 lakh ex-gratia per acre and a job in the thermal power plant to a family member. Even though, government made no formal announcement on the package but began works at the thermal power plant, which was unethical, people alleged. The TDP leader Narayana felt that the government should take the interests of the local people into consideration before launching the works of the thermal power plant.
