Hyderabad: In a significant development, Telangana Government has decided to extend subsidised power to Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao gave his consent made by project concessionaire in a review meeting held at Secretariat on Tuesday.
According to official sources, the maximum power demand for HMR is 125 mega watts and consumption per day for running trains and stations is nearly 7.63 lakh units. Each train will be consuming nearly 450 kilowatt hours (kwhrs/units) per trip in Corridor–I (Miyapur– L.B. Nagar) and Corridor–III (Nagole–Shilparamam). It would be about 300 (units) per trip in Corridor–II (JBS–Falaknuma) due to less distance. Four dedicated 132 KV sub-stations at Uppal and Miyapur metro depots, Yusufguda and MGBS will be supplying power directly.
Other than for trains, power is also required for stations, depots and the main communication centres. The figures were calculated after considering the 30 per cent saving in power due to “regenerative” braking system. Metro Rail authorities estimated that 914 lakh units (2015) to 2,865 lakh units (2024) of power will be required including for malls and offices that will be developed in select stations and depots in next 10 years.
KCR happy with progress of works Meanwhile, Chandrashekar Rao expressed happiness after officials informed that 30 percent of works of the total 72 km line on three corridors was completed. Trial runs are being conducted successfully on Nagole-Mettuguda ( 8 km) and Miyapur-SR Nagar (11 km). KCR reminded that Telangana Government had allocated Rs 2,000 crore alone for this project to ensure its completion on time by April 2017.
He further stated that government would take care of issues relating to land acquisition, compensation to affected and road widening on the three routes.Further, CM directed authorities to conduct a feasibility study on extending metro rail from three different locations (Faluknuma, Raidurg and LB Nagar) until Shamshabad Airport in view of future needs.
He told them to ensure passengers getting down at Secunderabad and Nampally Railway Stations and Imliban and Jubilee Bus Terminals utilise Metro Rail services apart from city passengers.
