Goshamahal Hospital to be upgraded to a 100-bed facility

Hyderabad: The Central Government is actively considering to run the ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) Medical College at Sanathnagar, on its own or through PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode, Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, said on Thursday.

Addressing the media at ESIC regional office in Adarshnagar, Dattatreya stated that they had no options since Telangana Government backed out. He felt that financial costs of Rs 80 crore to operate the college and hospital might have influenced Telangana government’s decision.

Dattatreya, however, stated that he would be chairing a meeting with state government officials to decide on appointment of professors and medical faculty, besides, amenities in the proposed college and hospital, The estimated cost of the 500-bed super-specialty hospital with teaching college coming up in an area of 35 acres, was put at Rs. 686 crore and a sum of Rs. 469 crore has already been spent.

Once started, it will have 100 seats in the MBBS course per year. However, the quota to Telangana students will be little over 1/3 percent of the total seats. The Telangana government is understood to have rejected Centre’s proposal on grounds that the hospital would be open only to ESI insurance policy-holders (IPs) even after it takes over the administration.

To ensure efficiency and accountability, Labour Ministry took up several schemes like e-bills, online payment of ESI contribution for employers, Panchadeep and Suvidha Samagam among others, the minister added. Unlike the previous UPA government, Narendra Modi-led NDA administration is focussing on corruption free, transparent and accountable policies and it is there for everyone to see. He further informed that very old ESI hospital in Goshamahal would be upgraded to 100-bedded facility at the earliest.

5.51 crore to Beedi worker families

Meanwhile, Dattatreya stated that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 5.51 crore as study scholarships to students belonging to families of beedi workers. Commenting on Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Telangana state, the union minister felt that the Gandhi was atlast visiting the state to understand the plight of farmers. Close to 2000 farmers committed suicide during Congress regime in state but he never chose to console them, Dattatreya lamented.
