Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao announced Rs 14.50 crore fund for laying drinking water pipeline in MBT Nagar under Banjara Hills limits. He directed officials to focus on providing civic amenities, on priority basis, to people of the bastis.

As part of Swachh Hyderabad programme, Harish visited the area along with TRS MP K Kesav Rao. He appealed to locals and small vendors to keep their houses, markets and streets clean. “Officials should create awareness among the people to throw garbage only into the bins provided for the purpose,” he said.

The residents complained to the minister that no official visits the place to check storm water and drainage leakages because of which dirty water stagnates on the roads. “We are ascertaining the problems and pressing the staff to address them immediately”. He said he would look into their demands like removal of High Tension wires and construction of a community centre for women.

Harish Rao asked the officials to prepare proposals for construction of a primary health centre and weekly market, besides, addressing the issues of civic amenities. He said a special camp would be conducted on Monday to provide life insurance scheme to labourers, who form a majority in the basti.

He also assured the Basti people on setting up an e-library and a gym. Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao, local MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, senior IAS officer Rajat Kumar among others took part.
