Hyderabad: On tenth-day of the strike of 108 employees’ Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao responded positively on their demands. Minister for Health, Lakshma Reddy met the Chief Minister on Saturday and discussed about the issues raised by the 108 employees. KCR reportedly said on Sunday that he would discuss with the GVK officials and will resolve the issues. The government will institute a committee headed by Vinay Bhaskar to resolve the other issues of 108 employees and will also draft a policy.


Despite the hot conditions, the brave 108 emergency services employees have been agitating for 10 days demanding the government to take over 108 services management from GVK.


Daily, around 800 employees from ten Telangana districts have been participating in the strike which began on May 13. Every day, leaders from various organizations and political parties except Telangana Rasthra Samithi (TRS) visited the agitation camp at the dharna chowk, Indira Park. Surprisingly, the 108 employees association is affiliated to the TRS Labour wing.


“We are ashamed of the union because of affiliated to the TRS which is ruling Telangana state. Invariably, we are demanding the TRS government to fulfill our demands. It is our fatality,” said Kanakayya, a state committee member of Telangana 108 state staff association (TRS). He further added that the employees did not get the salary in the month of Dasara festival. Telangana State 108 contract employee’s union (CITU) honorary president Yada Naik demanded to the management of 108 emergency services GVK to revoke the termination of 70 employees who were terminated for petty issues. He supported the strike called by employees.


On May 21, a bus fell into the Godavari River in Khammam town. The locals nearby called 108 services for help but the non-availability of 108 emergency services resulted in people having an altercation with the police due to the lack of emergency ambulance services which caused a lot lives.


The GVK is currently running few 108 vehicles with local auto drivers without emergency technicians.
