Cash for vote scam & defections

Hyderabad: The Deputy Floor leader of the Congress Legislature Party, T Jeevan Reddy, has appealed to the President to intervene in the issue arising out of “cash-for-vote” scam. He felt that an inquiry by CBI would unearth the dubious acts of defection and corruption being indulged in the State by different political parties.

In a letter addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee, he held that the Telangana Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao was involved in brazen acts of encouraging defections of legislators from Congress, TDP and other parties to his party. In this drama of defections, all the legal and Constitutional niceties were thrown to the winds. He held that KCR had exhibited contempt for Constitution and legal process.

He questioned the Constitutional validity of some of the MLAs, who were administered oath of office by Governor E S L Narasimhan as Ministers after their defections from opposition parties to the ruling party. “The Governor had also not taken any action nor did he elicit information from the Chief Minister to this day about the status of membership of T Srinivas Yadav in the Assembly,” he stated.

Jeevan Reddy held that despite having won an absolute majority, KCR was at the game of encouraging defection immediately after 2014 elections, by terming them as process of development. “The only difference between KCR and N Chandrababu Naidu is that the latter was caught on tape, while KCR is perfect at camouflaging his acts of encouraging defections,” he added.

He held that Speaker and Governor had failed in protecting Constitution. They turned the State into a fertile ground for unconstitutional defections with all kinds of acts of bribery from all sides.
