Anurag SharmaHyderabad: It is more than a year now, Anurag Sharma still continues to hold the post of in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana State. Thanks to the delay by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) which is yet to send three shortlisted IPS officers’ names to the State Government to enable it to choose the full time DGP of the State.

Anurag Sharma, (1982 batch) has been holding additional charge as in-charge DGP for the past 13 months. He was posted as DGP (Coordination) and given full additional charge of DGP on June 2, 2014. This is one of the longest tenures in the police force followed by Chittaranjan Singh, who was made in-charge DGP of Gujarat State for more than one and a half year.

As per the Supreme Court guidelines, both the Telugu States after bifurcation were supposed to suggest names of six senior most IPS officers to the UPSC for the selection of the DGP post and the UPSC in turn would shortlist three names and send them to the State Government to select the top cop of their respective state.

The process of selecting DGP of Andhra Pradesh has been completed and JV Ramudu was retained the DGP. It is to be seen whether Anurag is going to be retained as DGP or not. Telangana State has also sent its six selected IPS officers’ list to the UPSC in March 2015.

The list includes the names of Anurag Sharma (1982 batch), TP Das (1979), AK Khan (1981), Kode Durga Prasad (1981), Navneet Rajan Wasan (1980) and Aruna Bahuguna (1979). But the list is still pending with the commission.
