Maxcure performs resurfacing joint replacement surgery
Renowned Orthopedic specialist Dr Sunil Apsingi at MaxCure Hospitals at Madhapur performed resurfacing joint replacement surgery of the shoulder with “Eclipse” prosthesis on a 65-year-old male. “This is one of the most complex surgeries for shoulder arthritis. The patient was suffering from severe pain and disability caused by shoulder arthritis.

The patient was suffering from severe pain and disability caused by shoulder arthritis.
The surgery was highly successful and lasted for about an hour,” said Dr Sunil Apsingi. Resurfacing joint replacement surgery of the shoulder is considered one of the prime solutions for shoulder arthritis and very few hospitals have specialised in this rare procedure.
The patient, Jetti Narsaiah, Metaplli Mandal of Karimnagar district had severe pain and restriction of movement of his shoulder. The specialists at the Orthopedic Department of MaxCure Hospitals decided to go for right shoulder resurfacing instead of total shoulder arthroplasty.
“This complex procedure required replacement the head of the arm bone with a hemispheric metallic head, which not only give a new surface to the ball of the joint, it also allows much of the natural bone to remain intact. As opposed to a conventional shoulder prosthesis which has a long stem this particular prosthesis has a short stem and hence is more natural and can be revised easily if required in the future,” said Dr Sunil Apsingi.
The surgery was very successful and the patient was on the path of recovery, all set to resume his day-to-day affairs, added Dr Sunil Apsingi.
