Hyderabad: The Maulana Azad National Urdu University Teacher's Association (MANUUTA) held an emergency meeting on Wednesday to protest against the FIR that was lodged against Prof Kancha Ilaiah in Sultan Bazaar Police Station by Balaswami, Thirupati Naik, Srinivas and Ashok belonging to the Vishva Hindu Parishad.

Consequently, the police issued a notice to Prof Kancha Ilaiah for expressing his views in the form of academic article. Ilaiah is the Director of Alberuni Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy at the National Urdu University. Many teachers condemned this as an infringement upon the rights of the academicians.

The teachers passed a resolution clearly stating that their freedom of expression which is their democratic right as citizens of India was being curtailed. The members of the teachers association spoke strongly against the political interference in the academic culture of the Universities. The meeting was attended by Deans, Directors, departments heads, faculty members and non–teaching Staff.
