Hyderabad: The Telangana State Forest department is facing a peculiar situation. For the first time, the department has two Principal Chief Conservators of Forest (PCCF) till July 31 this year. This situation had arisen due to sudden elevation of the 1979 IFS batch officer Rajesh Mittal, who is at present Telangana State Forest Development Corporation (TSFDC) Vice Chairman and Managing Director, as the new PCCF and HoFF (Head of Forest Force).

He is due to retire on July 31 even as SBL Mishra, the present incumbent PCCF and HoFF still has one year service. According to officials, the normal practice is that the successor to the PCCF and HoFF begins one month before the retirement of the officer. But in this case, Mishra still has one year to go. Moreover the new incumbent should be selected by a three-member committee headed by the Chief Secretary.

In this case, the CS had issued orders promoting Mittal as PCCF and HoFF. The PCCF ( HoFF) post has been created in the state Forest department under the instructions of the union government which introduced new guidelines in the appointments in state Forest departments in 2009 in all states. The officials say that it is intriguing as the elevation of Mittal had taken place just a week before his retirement and that too when there was no vacancy.
