Hyderabad: Ahead of the proposed visit of Rahul Gandhi to Telangana, the Telangana Congress Legislature Party led by former minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy will visit the drought-affected farmers of Tandur and Parigi from July 31. The Kisan Yatra will be launched from Shankarpally mandal.

P Sabitha Indra Reddy, T Ram Mohan Reddy Stating this here on Wednesday, Parigi MLA T Ram Mohan Reddy demanded that the State government convene a special session of Assembly to discuss the farmers’ issues in view of the failed monsoon. Reddy alleged that the TRS government completely neglected the welfare of farmers and took no effort to at least minimise their distress.

He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was more focused on making fresh announcements while ignoring the promises that he had made in the election manifesto. He said the government did not fulfill the promise of waiving of crop loans up to Rs 1 lakh. Further, thousands of farmers were set to lose their crop insurance due to non-payment of premium, he said and asked the government to pay the premium for crop insurance before the end of deadline on July 31.

Reddy also opposed the proposed change in design of Pranahita-Chevella project. He said the completion of project would help cultivation on more than 5 lakh acres of land. Alleging that the TRS government had changed the loan waiver scheme as an interest waiver scheme for the farmers, Reddy demanded that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy provide relief to the farmers from their problems and stop suicides by visiting the withering crop fields.

Questioning the government as to why it was implementing the Water Grid Project, which was not mentioned in the TRS manifesto, Reddy advised the government to keep the scheme aside. Stating that there were no adequate Assistant Engineers (AEs) in mandals in the Electricity department, Reddy demanded that the government appoint four AEs in every mandal and required sub-staff immediately.

“The electricity department is not working properly. The farmers are dying due to current shocks. The government has to appoint adequate engineers in the department,” he asked the government.
