Slams Opposition parties for objecting irrigation projects

Mahasamudram Gandi (Karimnagar): Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday extensively toured in Husnabad mandal and inspected the pending irrigation projects. The Chief Minister straightaway reached Gouravelli project in the convoy and inspected the reservoir under construction.

The compensation for the 2,200 acres land had already been paid and payment for houses and rehabilitation and resettlement was still pending. Then he checked the projects of Gandipalli and Mahasamudram Gandi and later addressed a public meeting. Speaking on the occasion, KCR assured the people that Gouravelli, Gandipalli and Mahasamudram Gandi projects would be completed in coming two-and-a-half years period and supply water to 1.5 lakh acres in Husnabad Assembly constituency.

He also promised uninterrupted power supply in the coming five years. The Chief Minister said he had inspected Mid Manair and other projects and felt that with the present project design, it was not possible to draw 15 tmcft of water to bring 1.5 lakh acres under cultivation. He emphasised the need to enhance the capacity of canals and tunnels of the projects.

In the wake of huge resistance from the opposition parties against the State government’s decision to cancel Thotapalli reservoir, he said that the engineers would decide whether the project to be taken up or not. ‘Political leaders have nothing to do with the engineering department job. I directed the engineering department officials to study Thotapalli project and submit a report.

The officials are on the job.’ KCR found fault with the Congress and Telugu Desam Parties for not completing the pending irrigation projects during the last 60 years. Crops in Husnabad areas would have not been withered due to prolonged dry spell, if Gouravelli and Gandipalli projects were completed.
