Hyderabad: It appears that danger is lurking in the form of an outbreak of dengue across Telangana districts, including Hyderabad, going by the available reports. In Hyderabad alone, 13 cases have been reported in the last eight days while it is around 36 in the State, as of Friday.

Although, the panic button has not been pressed, as such, the Health Ministry is taking enough measures to prevent the spread of the disease. Khammam is also seeing an alarming rise in the number of cases with 28 reported since January while the Health officials have confirmed 650 cases of malaria in Manuguru, Parnasala, Cherla, Korata Gudem, and Wajedu since January.

This is in addition to cases of typhoid in Palvoncha area. Locals estimate that in all eight possible dengue cases have been reported in Nizamabad. According to Dr G Srinivas, Joint Director, Epidemics, the situation is under control and all preventive measures are being taken. A 24x7 dedicated epidemic cell with two people has been set up at Director of Health office, Hyderabad and any one can get help by calling 040-24651119.

In the latest instance, 20-year-old Lalith, a Radiology PG student was detected with Dengue and admitted to the Gandhi hospital in the city, which also reported two new cases, pointed out Dr Venkateswarlu, Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital. Dr K Shankar, Superintendent of Fever Hospital told The Hans India that the hospital had 30 dengue cases in July while it is ten as of Saturday.

“Dengue is spread by an ‘Ades’ Mosquito. The mosquito bites the infected person and then bites someone else who is not affected thus transmitting the infection,” said Dr Venkateswarlu. These mosquitoes usually bite during the day therefore, special precautions should be taken during early morning hours, he said.

The doctors have advised the general public to wear long-sleeved shirts, long trousers, socks and shoes when venturing outside which could help prevent mosquito bite. They strictly warned against storing stagnant water, which were breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
