The organization of priests in Telangana, Telangana Archaka Samakhya proposed to hold special pujas and yagams for rains that has been submitted to endowments minister A Indra Karan Reddy.

However, the officials stated that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had asked them to wait till August 15 before going ahead with yagams and pujas.

The working president of Samakhya, Gangu Upendra Sharma said that the state is witnessing severe drought conditions and with only one-and-a-half-month left for the rainy season to end, the government needs to take a decision at the earliest. He said that the desired results can be achieved if special pujas and yagams are conducted at Shiva and other prominent temples.

The proposal has been forwarded to the government by the endowments minister who informed that several districts are facing severe irrigation and drinking problems. Mr Reddy added that there is nothing wrong in conducting special yagams and pujas to appease the rain god but it is up to the Chief Minister to take a call.
