Hyderabad: Nearly 5,000 population of Aziznagar village in Moinabad mandal of Ranga Reddy district have reasons to rejoice. Courtesy Grama Jyothi scheme, the decades-old wish of villagers for developing the shortcut road route from Aziznagar to Shamshabad will be fulfilled.

Panchayat Raj Minister K Taraka Rama Rao, who kicked off the Grama Jyothi scheme in Aziznagar village on Monday, assured the locals that government would take steps to develop road to Shamshabad with an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore.

This is the shortest possible road connectivity between the two places. However, the existing mud road is in bad condition because of which travelling by road has become a difficult task. KTR’s assurance would ensure a blacktopped or CC road between Aziznagar and Shamshabad.

Farmers comprise half of the village population and majority of them go to Shamshabad, regularly, to sell their produce, mostly vegetables. Due to bad condition of the shortcut route, they are forced to take another route, which is nearly 25 km long. This demand was put forward by few locals during the village meeting (Grama Sabha) in which Minister was also present.

He immediately agreed to their demand and instructed District Collector to pursue the matter. In response to the villagers demands for a dhobi ghat, post office, fencing of graveyard to prevent encroaching, KTR directed district authorities to discuss with locals and arrive at a decision.

During his speech, KTR said this new scheme was just an extension of government’s earlier initiative ‘Our Village Our Plan’. While priorities for each village were identified in the first step, Grama Jyothi would ensure development of villages, he said.

He told the villagers to constitute committees and ensure cent per cent tax collection, sanitation, literacy and immunization, besides increase of green cover. Soon after arrival, KTR and Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy undertook a padayatra in the village and interacted with locals.

They enquired the villagers about pension assistance and ration supply. Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, MLA K Yadaiah, Collector, Joint Collector and elected representatives of local bodies and several villagers took part.
