Hyderabad: The Telangana State Medical and Health department officials will undertake house-to-house survey in the wake of outbreak of dengue, malaria and chikungunya cases. According to sources in the Medical and Health Department, the decision was taken during the video conference conducted by Principal Secretary of Health Suresh Chanda on Thursday.

During the conference with District Collectors and District Medical and Health officials, Suresh Chanda directed the District Malaria Officer to provide training to the field staff to Provide necessary training to the field staff in conducting Aedes (mosquito which transmits deceases like yellow fever and dengue) larval survey once in a week.

He also directed the district administration to ensure that every Friday is observed as a dry day to prevent water logging, so that population of mosquitoes can be curbed, and it in turn would arrest the spread of dengue. He also instructed the district administration to involve village sarpanches, volunteers from women self-help groups, school teachers and Anganwadi workers in the campaign to create awareness among people on vector-borne diseases.

The sources said as many as 331 dengue cases were reported in the State since January 2015 to till date. As many as 97 case were reported from Khammam, 77 from Nizamabad, 55 Hyderabad, and from 26 from Warangal. The Principal Secretary directed the officials to be on alert in these districts and ensure that the outbreak of dengue cases is curbed.

The officials identified that malaria was rampant in Khammam, Adilabad and Warangal districts, particularly in the tribal areas. The incidence of malaria was reported from Karimnagar district too. Out of 1,972 malaria cases reported till date across the State, as many as 86.41 per cent of cases were reported from Khammam,
Adilabad and Warangal districts alone. Of the 50 Chikungunya cases reported from across the district, Mahabubnagar topped the list with 32 cases reported, followed by Adilabad13 and Hyderabad 5.
