Drivers of cabs attached to various IT companies in Hyderabad generally give ‘lifts’ to strangers to make an extra buck or two

Hyderabad: The cab drivers, attached to different IT companies through their cab operators, have been advised against giving a lift to strangers. Addressing the fifth Training and Appraisal Session organised by Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) in collaboration with the Cyberabad Police and Society for Cyberabad Security Council at Novartis at Madhapur here on Saturday, the experts asked cab drivers to be extra cautious in view of increasing security threats.


Kukatpally ACP Ashok Kumar suggested that the drivers transport employees of the designated companies only. Some drivers were seen transporting passengers waiting at bus stops or roadside, he said. He warned that such practice may spell danger to society.The training session was also addressed by Krishna Yedula of Cyberabad Traffic Forum, Shankar of Cyberabad Traffic Training Institute and TSCBOA President Syed Nizamuddin.


The experts appealed to the cabs drivers to play an active role in making Hyderabad a safe city. They also urged the drivers to coordinate with the “She Teams” to ensure safety of women passengers. The drivers were given a PowerPoint presentation women's safety and traffic rules.


The TSCBOA president said that the first phase of socio-economic survey of drivers working in Hyderabad was nearing completion. He said the findings of the survey were quite surprising. It was found that several highly educated youth were working as cab drivers because of circumstances driven by poverty.


He said based on the findings, the State and Central governments would be approached with specific demands for the welfare of all drivers. He also urged the drivers to submit the filled-in survey forms at the earliest. More than 100 drivers participated in the training session.


It may be mentioned that this was the fifth training session held by the TSCBOA in collaboration with the Cyberabad Police. Earlier, training sessions were held at Cognizant, I-Labs, Franklin Templeton and Capital IQ. So far, nearly 3,000 drivers were trained.
