Hyderabad: Congress senior leader and former minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy on Tuesday alleged that Pranahita-Chevella project was diverted from Ranga Reddy district to provide water to Gajwel and Siddipet, the constituencies of Chief Minister and Irrigation Minister respectively.

Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, she challenged Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao for an open debate on development of Ranga Reddy district.

She dismissed his allegations that the Congress did not develop the district during its 10-year regime. She invited the Minister for a joint visit for knowing the contribution of the earlier governments in various projects. She asserted that the Congress started several projects in RR district, including Krishna Phase III, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA),

Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Metro Rail project to name a few. Sabitha Reddy said the Congress government had spent several hundreds crores of rupees for the development of RR district. The Pranahita-Chevella project was aimed at benefitting Ranga Reddy district.

However, by changing its design, the TRS government was trying to deprive the district of several benefits. She questioned the silence of Ministers hailing from Ranga Reddy district on the issue.

Former minister G Prasad Kumar and CLP secretary T Rammohan Reddy also spoke. Senior leaders including MLA Bhikshapati Goud, MLC Ranga Reddy, former MLA Sudhir Reddy and RR DCC President K Mallesh were also present.
