Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari announced that the government would assist Telugu University with Rs 25 lakh for publishing books of various writers and poets.

Addressing the Literary Awards-2012 ceremony of Telugu University at the university auditorium here on Tuesday, Kadiyam said the government would approve the construction of the university library with Rs 5 crore fund allocated by the University Grants Commission.

The Deputy Chief Minister advised the university administration to present Literary Awards for 2013 and 2014 by the end of December 2015.

Kadiyam urged the writers to revive the Telangana culture and slang which was neglected by the earlier governments. He advised the writers to produce books highlighting the language and culture of Telangana.

During the occasion, Rallabandi Kavitha Prasad was bestowed a posthumous award for his book Sapthagiri Dhama Kaliyuga Sarvabhouma.

The other awardees include Ponnala Balaiah (free verse), Alaparthi Venkata Subba Rao (children’s literature), Palamaneru Balaji (short story), Peddinti Ashok Kumar (novel), K Vidmahe (criticism), KVLN Sarma (play) Govindaraju Ramakrishna Rao (translation),

Sunkireddy Narayana Reddy (others category) and K Kusuma Reddy (best book among female writers). The awardees were presented with a citation, shawl and Rs 20,116.
