Hyderabad: TPCC Mahila Congress president N Sharada on Friday strongly opposed the State government's decision to provide Rs 10 crore grant to Telangana Jagruthi, an NGO of Nizamabad MP K. Kavitha, to celebrate Bathukamma festival.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Sharada alleged that funds were being allotted to Kavitha's NGO as she was the daughter of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

She said Bathukamma is being celebrated in Telangana even before KCR was born. Therefore, she said there was no need to allot separate funds for the festival.

Further, she said the government staff was not working in office for half day due to celebration of Bathukamma festival. Sharada said instead of giving Rs. 10 crore to Kavitha's NGO, the State government should have cleared Rs 12 crore dues to sugarcane farmers.
