Hyderabad: The ruling TRS MLAs played the role of the opposition in the House on Tuesday in the absence of Opposition members.

Most of the Opposition members, barring the MIM, were suspended on Monday for remainder of the Assembly session following bedlam in the House.

The ruling MLAs expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of the Anganwadi centres in the districts. They demanded that the government take steps to strengthen the centres and provide all basic amenities to them.

During the question hour, the party MLA G Balaraju brought to the notice of the government that the salaries to the Anganwadi workers were not being paid regularly. In some cases, the centres remained closed due to lack of staff to monitor the activities.

Ch Ramesh said the poor infrastructure was one of the factors that resulted in failure to provide nutritious food to pregnant women and children. He appealed to the government to take up measure to strengthen the centre. He demanded immediate release of Rs 70 lakh for strengthening the centres.

S Ramalinga Reddy brought to the notice of the government that the people in his constituency complained of poor maintenance of Anganwadi centre due to funds crunch. There was no supply of rice, eggs and milk to the centre, he said.

Redya Naik said the Anganwadi centre demanded construction of building to house Anganwadi centres. There were no buildings to house the centre in tribal areas, he said.

MLAs G Sunitha, Govardhan and Manohar Reddy brought to the notice of the government the problems being faced by the Anganwadi workers and poor maintenance of the centres.

Minister for Women and Child Welfare T Nageswara Rao blamed the Centre for the sorry state of affair. He said the State government had allotted Rs 1,400 crore for the scheme though the Union government did not release funds.

He further said the government had already released Rs 450 crore towards paying salaries to workers and for supply nutritious food to women and children. He told the members that the salaries of the workers were increased as promised by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
