Warangal: Out of nowhere, Fathima Mary, wife of former Deputy Chief Minister T Rajaiah, has emerged as one of the top contenders for the TRS ticket for the Warangal Lok Sabha (Reserved) byelection. The seat has fallen vacant following the resignation of Kadiyam Srihari after his induction into the State Cabinet.
With the Election Commission (EC) set to announce scheduled for byelection to the Warangal Lok Sabha seat in a few days, many a TRS leader, aspiring to get the party ticket, have now found a new contender –
Fathima Mary, also known as Bharathi, a senior Librarian in the Government Polytechnic College, and a double postgraduate. This comes in the wake of recent buzz in the political circles that Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari was making a bid to field his daughter Kavya,
a resident doctor in the Kakatiya Medical College as the candidate for the Parliamentary seat he vacated. But Srihari had already denied it, saying that it was mere speculation.
Initially, quite a few names – Errolla Srinivas, Manda Jagannatham, SC Corporation Chairman Pidamarthy Ravi and Pasunuri Dayakar of the TRS, and former MPs G Vivek and S Rajaiah of the Congress - were also reportedly vying for the TRS ticket.
TRS politburo member and party's student wing leader Errolla Srinivas, who is in the top bracket of the aspirants, belongs to Medak district. If the ‘local card’ is brought to fore,
things will not work for him although he is said to be close associate of the Minister for Major Irrigation T Harish Rao. Stating that his wife is not in the race for the ticket, former Deputy Chief Minister T Rajaiah told The Hans India,
“I am a staunch follower of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). It’s up to him to decide what is best for the party.”
Although Rajaiah said that his family is not after for the ticket, the buzz among the political circles here is that there are certain factors that may work in favour of his wife’s candidature as there is a strong resentment among the Madiga community that Rajaiah was dismissed unceremoniously and without a valid reason.
It may be noted here that appointment of Kadiyam, who replaced Rajaiah, belongs to ‘Baindla’ a sub-caste of the SC, had attracted a lot of criticism from the Madiga community.
