GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Friday visited the Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Company manufacturing unit at Zaheerabad in Medak district and inspected the trolleys.

“The vehicles are manufactured in such a way that it can segregate dry and wet waste though a sophisticated hydraulic method,” said Somesh Kumar.

M&M has already finished manufactured 500 vehicles and has assured to manufacture the remaining by November 10. The company will also look after the maintenance of vehicles for a year.

Somesh informed that the civic body has received about 5,000 applications from candidates who want to use these trolleys.

“Of them, about 1,351 candidates have already paid the principle amount to the GHMC and vehicles would be handed over to them in the second week of November,” he said.

The 2,000 trolleys will lift about 3,000 tonnes of garbage each day from about 18 lakh residents in the city limits.

Meanwhile, Somesh Kumar said that manufacturing of door-to-door bins to collect dry and wet garbage has been going on at a brisk pace. 12 lakh out of 44 lakh garbage bins has already been manufactured.

The Commissioner added that apart from these, 18 modernised sweeping machines would hit the city roads by the second week of November.
