November 1st is the formation day of former state Andhra Pradesh. Remembering it makes it feel like passing through a place where a horrible accident has taken place reminding all the pain and suffering we went through as the formation of that state has cost Telangana a lot of development. The then leaders from Andhra failed to fulfil every promise they made and made us feel that Andhra people are Telangana's rivals. On this Black day of Telangana History (what I call this day) we should remember the sacrifices made by our heroes who led to the formation of this State.

I still remember the vivid image of Srikanth Chary burning himself alive, after Sri KCR started his hunger strike, for the formation of Telangana. He felt disheartened as government was not responding about the hunger strike. He ignited every student's ambition for Telangana and remained an icon for us. When Chidambaram, the then union Home minister, announced that the process of formation of Telangana has been initiated, people of Telangana were so happy and cried in joy.

Following the sequence of moves by Andhra leaders, the government withdrew their statement collapsing the dreams of our people. Yadaiah, a 19-year old boy, also thought that the formation of the State of Telangana would ensure jobs for hundreds of youngsters like him. But this act of their leaders left him frustrated and he immolated himself in protest forcing our leaders to react strongly.

I still recall those last words of Constable Kistiah who shot himself with his service revolver, “If I am alive, only my two children will be happy. But if we get separate Telangana, all the youth and children of the region will be happy and live with self-respect.”

This day reminds me of those dark days of Telangana when we were humiliated by saying that our language is not “classy”, our festivals are barbaric and we don't know how to develop our regions. They said that we don't know anything about culture and mocked us in several instances. Sounds familiar? Yes, White man's Burden. Those all sacrifices culminated with strong leadership brought us Telangana we're enjoying today. We should remember them on every occasion possible and make their dream of 'Bangaru-Telangana' come true.

This article is dedicated to all those martyrs who sacrificed themselves for this State. Jai Telangana!!!
