Hyderabad: Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna stressed the need for protecting Biodiversity for preventing drought and ecological imbalance. Releasing Telugu version of books on Biodiversity Rules 2015, at his chambers at the Secretariat, on Monday, he said 1,000 committees were constituted to protect and preserve Biodiversity and to create awareness among people.

He added Biodiversity management committees could be formed in every local body to protect the plants and animals which are on the verge of extinction and bring back past glory. He said Telugu material, now available, would help the committees for creating awareness among the people on protecting myriad variety of life on earth.

He asked the industries and companies to give their data for the purpose and help protect life on earth for ecological balance. “Our official team made a visit to Karnataka and Gujarat States on Biodiversity and is making efforts to protect living creatures, breeds of animals and micro-organisms, conservation of land races, folk varieties and cultivars and their documentation. To prevent drought, a survey was conducted on Sorghum (Jowar) and green gram crops at Aminpur and Zahirabad in Medak district,” he said.
