Hyderabad: Following Supreme Court’s ruling to commence the process of recruitment of teachers in primary schools, the Telangana government has decided to conduct the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to fill the posts in government schools.

Planning to hold the examination either in the last week of December or in the first week of January, the Education department officials are in the process of appointing the convener. The test date would be announced, officials said. As a large number of posts are vacant, the government appointed 7974 academic volunteers for the period of six months.

Despite the appointments, some schools are still running without teachers. According to the officials, nearly 3000 teacher posts are yet to be sanctioned to the schools upgraded to high schools. This means, nearly 10974 teacher posts are to be filled by the government. While directing the government to commence the process of recruitment within three weeks, the Supreme Court ordered the Secretary of primary education to file an affidavit regarding the progress of appointment process and asked to indicate how long it would take to fill up the vacant posts.

A senior official of education department said the government would take time to fill up the vacancies. He further said the government intends to issue DSC notification in the month of March and complete the recruitment process by the beginning of the academic year. “By next academic year, all the posts will be filled up,” a senior official added.
