The Opposition parties - TD-BJP combine and Congress alleged that the ruling TRS government is planning for the GHMC polls to take place during the Sankranti eve when a majority of the 30 lakh Seemandhra voters will be visiting their hometowns.

As the ruling party filed an affidavit in the Hyderabad High Court for the completion the GHMC election process before January 31 next year, the Opposition sees a plot in the TRS Govt's move. Sources from the State Election Commission state that the details of delimitation of divisions and the reservations to various divisions have not been received hence there is no clarity yet on the date of the polls to be held.

The Government is likely to hold GHMC polls either on January 15 or 16 when lakhs of Seemandhra voters living in the capital will visit AP for vacation. Former Congress minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy said that TRS is desperate which is the reason it is avoiding the Seemandhra voters’ participation in the polls in order to make the TRS-MIM combine win. The Minister further demanded the State Election Commission to issue a statement saying that the GHMC elections won't be held during Sankranthi.

In the last Assembly elections, the TDP-BJP combine bagged 15 out of the 24 Assembly segments falling under the GHMC area but this year TRS-MIM combine has more understanding in the GHMC polls which is a matter of concern for the Congress and TDP-BJP combine.
