Hyderabad: Despite wide publicity to create awareness among the public regarding Cyber fraudsters, many people, mostly educated, are becoming victims of cyber offences, said City Cyber Crimes ACP Dr Anuradha. She expressed concern over several complaints on bank frauds.

The Cyber Crime Police have received about 30 complaints in four days from November 1, and as many as 16 complaints on Wednesday and Thursday, from victims across the city. The offenders made phone calls to victims claiming to be employees of various banks and warned them to update their personal information with the bank to stop the account from deactivation.

The ACP said that the fraudsters asked for Aadhar card details, account number, PIN Number and also One Time Password (OTP) in some instances on the pretext of verifying the genuineness of the customer. Within minutes of sharing the information, the customers received messages on their mobiles that money in their account was transferred online to other accounts, the officer said.

“There are six credit card holders who have complained about the crime. All the complainants are educated and are aware of not sharing the secret information about the bank accounts. We have booked separate cases in all the complaints and are probing into it,” the ACP said.

Anuradha appealed to the public to not share the details of bank accounts and any other data to strangers.

“No bank will ask for your PIN, OTP and other discreet information. Beware of the callers and report to the police before the damage takes place,” she said.
