Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao directed the authorities concerned to begin 60 Minority Gurukul Schools from next academic year as part of opening them in 119 Assembly segments in the State. He also asked the officials to shift Chanchalguda Jail and Race Course in Malakpet for construction of residential schools for minority girls and boys.
At a high-level review meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali and other officials at the Secretariat on Saturday, the Chief Minister said 30 Minority Gurukul Schools each for boys and girls should be opened by recruiting 2,100 teaching staff and other non-teaching staff. He also asked them to come up with plans to initiate new schemes to provide employment opportunities to the Minority youth, and financial assistance to the youth in the State.
Meanwhile, Chandrashekar Rao expressed concern over the low literacy rate among Minorities and more number of school dropouts. A special action plan should be commenced to check the problem and provide employment to the Minorities through proper training and improving skills, he directed.
“Since Hyderabad has more Muslim population, we need to provide them education through residential schools in Malakpet by shifting Chanchalguda prison and Race Course,” he felt. Chandrashekar Rao also stated that Telangana had 12 per cent of Muslim population, who comprised the poor. He said they were deprived of basic amenities and steps must be taken to improve their living standards.
In the first year, the schools will function in rented buildings and next year in permanent buildings which provide 100 per cent education in English medium teaching and Urdu an optional language. These schools will function as that of SC Residential Schools.
To get rid of the money lenders harassment, a scheme would be launched to help hawkers and vendors of Muslim minority, Chandrashekar Rao said.
