Hyderabad:The much-hyped Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) proposed by the Telangana government for construction of 18 multi-level flyovers, underpasses, grade separators and improvement of junctions in different parts of Greater Hyderabad hit another roadblock as there has been lukewarm response from international bidders to carry out the projects.

According to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials, only three infrastructure agencies - Simplex Infrastructures Ltd, BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd (formerly known as B Seenaiah & Company) and M Venkata Rao Infra Projects Pvt Ltd - participated in technical bidding process. And, according to the officials, the three national agencies which had participated in the bidding process may not be able to handle such a huge project like SRDP.

The GHMC officials stated that only an experienced international infrastructure company would be efficient to take up the project and finish it with world class quality.

They also added that the State government would hold a review meeting on November 16 to take a call on the bidding process. The GHMC officials, quoting Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s statement during auto trolley inauguration programme, said the government might send a delegation to China to conduct an extensive study on urban infrastructure projects in this regard. The delegation was also likely to convince Chinese infrastructure companies to take up the project, they added. However, officials said it would take another six months to launch SRDP considering the technical and financial bidding process, land acquisition and various other related issues.

Meanwhile, the GHMC divided the entire work into five packages. Package I includes multi-level flyovers and grade separators at six junctions - KBR Park entrance, Maharaja Agrasen Junction (Road No 12), Film Nagar, Road No 45 Junction, Jubilee Hills Check-Post Junction and Cancer Hospital Junction (Road No.10 Junction).

The total cost of Package- I is around Rs 322.92 crore. Package II includes LB Nagar Junction, Bairamalguda Junction, Kamineni Hospital Junction on Inner Ring Road and Chintalkunta Check-post Junction (Rs 331.38). Package III includes the construction and improvement of grade separators at Uppal and Rasoolpura (Rs 160.07 crore).

Package IV includes the construction of multi-level Biodiversity Park Junction, Ayyappa Society Junction, Rajiv Gandhi Statue Junction and Mind Space (Rs 196.13 crore). Package V includes the construction and improvement of grade separators or flyovers at Owaisi Hospital and Bahadurpura (Rs 86.21 crore).
