Hyderabad: While B-town queen bees Kareena Kapoor, Tabu and Karisma Kapoor turned up for the inaugural of the 19th International Children’s Film Festival, the absence of T-town stars from the international event was telling. It is not sure that any of the stars are expected to watch the 200-odd movies during the seven-day festival or turn up for the closing ceremony which looks like a bleak scenario at the moment. Talking about this attitude by the stars, producer Nattikumar says, “Most of them have become money-minded."
“These actors are paid lakhs of rupees to inaugurate a showroom or spa. So why would they waste time on a film festival which wouldn’t fetch them even a rupee? Many directors and writers too are not attending the event because they can't steal plots from kiddie flicks,"
he adds.
However, Vijayendar Reddy, executive member, Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce, refutes the claims made by Nattikumar.
“There are many stars who are willing to attend the event but are worried over the security measures at the venue. The organisers should have fixed dates with the actors before hand to confirm their presence as they are always pre-occupied with other work,” he reasons.
“The Film Society has not only failed to rope in T-town stars, but has also failed to provide festival catalogues and even synopsis for hundreds of foreign language films to 300-odd delegates and even to some media personnel. “Only 21 jury members are given synopsis and schedules and others are left in the lurch,” says a delegate and adds that it is difficult to follow foreign language movies without a synopsis and blames it on lack of co-ordination between government officials and CFSI.
However, the Telangana film fraternity is waiting with bated breath for Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s address at the closing ceremony as earlier governments announced policy decisions during such mega events. “It’s an international event and so we are expecting the Chief Minister to announce special sops to safeguard Telangana cinema,” says a excited T-filmmaker.
