Mahabubnagar: The State government is planning to provide drinking water to 550 villages in the district as part of the first phase of water grid programme. Revealing the government’s plans to provide 100 per cent drinking water supply to Mahabubnagar, Niranjan Reddy, Vice Chairman, Planning Commission, asked the district officials to prepare a detailed proposal to be submitted to the Karnataka government to seek additional release of water in the district.

“The KCR government is taking all initiatives to ensure 100 per cent water supply to the district under water grid project. By June 2016, 550 villages will get water supply. At the same time we are taking all steps to conduct Krishna Puskaralu on priority,” said Reddy while reviewing the various developments works in the district.

Taking part in the review meeting at Revenue Guest House on Tuesday, Jupally Krishna Rao, Minister for Major Industries, along with Laxma Reddy, Minister of Health, asked the officials to work in coordination with the elected representatives irrespective of their party. Srinivasa Goud, Mahabubnagar MLA, asked the officials to conduct a proper ground level study and prepare correct estimation of works for renovation of temples and existing ghats along the Krishna River.

The ministers, MLAs and opposition party members suggested that officials should take note of the recently held Godavari Pushkaralu and asked them to identify the deficiencies and problems to avoid such problems. “Particularly when the crowd is heavy, it becomes difficult to control them. To overcome such problems, the officials must prepare a detailed plan of action for parking, management of crowd, and provision of facilities to the devotees,” said Krishna Rao.

Taking stock of drinking water problems in the district, the officials were directed to immediately repair the bores and bore motors and restore the water supply in the villages and urban areas. In municipal areas, officials are directed to supply water through tankers. As part of Common Relief Fund (CRF) and non-CRF funds, the officials have sent a proposal of Rs 45 crore for the district.
