The Election Commission of India on Tuesday announced the schedule for the conduct of biennial election for 12 seats in the Telangana Legislative Council from Local Authorities Constituencies (LAC) in the T state.

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Tuesday announced the schedule for the conduct of biennial election for 12 seats in the Telangana Legislative Council from Local Authorities Constituencies (LAC) in the T state.

The constituencies where elections are to be held are one each in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Medak, Nalgonda, Warangal and Khammam and two each in Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar and Ranga Reddy districts.

The Commission will issue notification on December 2 and the poll will be conducted on December 27 (Sunday). Counting of votes will be taken up on December 30.

As per the schedule, the last date to file the nominations is December 9 and the last for withdrawal of nominations is December 12. Polling will be held on December 27 from 8am to 4pm.

The Commission said the model code of conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the districts in which the elections are to be held.

The total number of members of the Telangana Legislative Council is 40 of which 14 members each are elected from Assembly constituencies and LACs , 3 each from Graduate and Teachers constituencies and 6 others will be nominated by Governor. Twelve of the 14 local authority constituencies are vacant.
