Nalgonda: The CPI (M) will hold relay hunger strikes from December 1 to 3 at all the mandal headquarters demanding the State government declare all mandals in the district as drought-hit.

Disclosing this to the media here on Saturday, CPM district secretary Julakanti Ranga Reddy alleged that the government has declared only 23 mandals as drought-hit even though drought like situation was prevailing in the entire district.
Alleging that the State government has utterly failed to address the burning issues facing the district, Reddy pointed out that the villages including those near the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut areas were also reeling under severe drinking water scarcity. There was also scarcity of fodder in the district, he added.

The farmers were also not getting minimum support price (MSP) for their crops, Ranga Reddy lamented. He criticised the district officials for preparing the report on drought situation by using unscientific methods. The CPM leader demanded the District Collector for convening immediately an all-party meeting to discuss these important issues. He urged the State government to take up drought relief measures in the district on a war footing.
