Gajwel: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao appealed to the devotees attending the Ayuta Chandi Yagam to follow utmost self-discipline when attending the holy ceremony at his farmhouse, in Erravelli Village from December 23 to 27.

Briefing the media persons about the event at his farmhouse on Friday, he cleared the air surrounding the expenditure for the Yagam, Rs 6 to 7 crore, which he said was not being sponsored by the government, but being borne entirely by him and his relatives and other donors.

He said the decision for conducting the penance was taken four years ago when it was performed by Sringeri Shankaracharya. The Chief Minister had then wished to perform it when Telangana State becomes a reality. Now, looking at the challenges the new State was facing, he felt that the Yagam was necessary to achieve global peace and welfare of the people.

He said about 40,000 people were being invited for the holy event, which include people’s representatives at all levels, industrialists, award winners, writers and so on. He said everyone was invited to the event and ‘prasadam’ and food arrangements would be made for 50,000 people every day during the penance.

He informed that 1,500 Rithwiks (Yogis with years of penance and mantra chanting), coming from six States, would conduct the Maha Yagam and that around 8,000- 10,000 people could make circles around the barricaded Yagasthali, where no one except the priests performing the Yagam would be allowed. He announced that arrangements were made for accommodating about 10,000 people outside in the holding area and parking was available for 20,000 vehicles.

Arrangements for VVIPs and journalists were made on the premises. At least 1,000 women would be allowed to make Lalitha Sahasranama Kumkumarchana every day, he said adding that Harikathas would be performed and bhajans and devotional songs would be played during the event.

“This is a penance which has to be followed in an extremely strict and disciplined way, where people will have certain tasks to perform. Even I am just an ordinary volunteer when it comes to the Yagam. Every person will have tasks, to which the volunteers will strictly have to adhere to,” he Chandrashekar Rao said.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Governors ESL Narasimhan, Vidyasagar Rao and Rosaiah, High Court Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale, Judges from Supreme Court, Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, Guru Ravi Shankar and other spiritual leaders are expected to attend the five-day ceremony.
