Hyderabad: Processions and religious meetings marked the celebration of the birth anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Milad-un-Nabi) across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Thursday.

Several religious leaders took out Milad processions from different localities, which culminated in the Old City. The Qutba-e-Milaad was recited at historic Mecca Masjid. Later, a grand procession led by noted religious leader Moulana Syed Auliya Hussaini was taken out from Mecca Masjid to Moghalpura playground.

For the first time, Telangana Congress leaders set up a welcome dais near Mecca Masjid. TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, GHCC (Minorities Dept) chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail, GHCC general secretary Syed Nizamuddin and other senior leaders welcomed the Milaad Juloos.

Relics of Prophet Muhammad were also displayed at Mecca Masjid, Masjid-e-Shattariya, Quadri Chaman, Dargah-e-Yousufain, Siddiq Gulshan and a few other places in the city.

Banners inscribed with Quranic verses, Hadith and poetic verses were displayed during the procession. Muslims gathered in large numbers to offer special prayers in all mosques. Green buntings, flags and banners adorned the roads all over the city.

The celebrations began from Wednesday night itself. Nearly two lakh people attended the public meeting Jalsa-e-Rahmatulil Aalameen at Darulsalaam which was addressed by eminent religious scholars from across the country.

On Thursday, the largest congregation was seen at Nizam College Grounds where Majlis-e-Tameer Millat organised Jalsa-e-Rahmatul Lil-alameen. Elaborate arrangements were made by the city police to ensure peaceful conduct of the celebrations.
