Hyderabad: With a view to the GHMC elections most of the parties seem to be making the 2-bedroom house scheme a trump card to garner votes.
Even though the State government has amended the previous GO while reducing the role of MLA, over 2-bedroom housing after High Court intervention, the MIM’s head office at Darussalam is taking thousands of applications daily. People residing under seven constituencies represented by MLAs of the party are making a beeline to get their applications endorsed by them.
People belonging to poorer section under the seven constituencies -- Charminar, Bahadurpura, Karwan, Nampally, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura and Malakpet are seeking the help of the leaders. MIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi along with the MLAs can be seen daily in helping out the people, while hundreds wait outside the party office at any given time.
According to party sources, the MLAs have cleared more than 40,000 applications till Thursday.A similar exercise was taken recently by BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar in Uppal constituency by holding camps in various localities. The party men reportedly collected the applications from the aspirants of the 2-bedroom houses.
While on the other hand the ruling TRS is selling the idea through a media blitzkrieg. As per the amendments made by government to the GO recently following the High Court’s decision a district level committee will be constituted with the MLAs of the district under the chairmanship of the minister from the district. The District Collector will be the convenor of the committee for the purpose of implementation of the programme.
A large number of people have been thronging Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy collectorates. According to sources, over 10,000 applications were given in Hyderabad collectorate during last the three days. The political parties, including Congress and Left have strongly criticised the ruling TRS and its ally MIM for generating the hype and trying to lure voters.
The Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (Minorities Department) Chairman Shaik Abdullah Sohail said that the ruling party and MIM were taking the poor for a ride, by creating unnecessary euphoria over the housing scheme.
M Srinivas, of CPI (M) Greater Hyderabad Central City Committee, felt that the poor perhaps do not have the idea that their applications would end up in dustbins. The State government has not made any mention about the land or where it would construct the housing units, he said.
