Address drinking water issues, govt tells RWS
In view of prevailing drought and ongoing Swachh Bharat programme, the TRS government has asked the officials of the Rural Water Supply (RWS) department to address the impending drinking water crisis in the drought-hit districts and focus on the construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat programme.

Stops pipe-laying works and construction of water storage tanks in drought-hit mandals
All the officials from the rank of Superintending Engineer (SE) to Junior Assistant have been asked to monitor regularly and arrange water tanks in the areas hit by water scarcity
Hyderabad: In view of prevailing drought and ongoing Swachh Bharat programme, the TRS government has asked the officials of the Rural Water Supply (RWS) department to address the impending drinking water crisis in the drought-hit districts and focus on the construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat programme.
Barring Gajwel Assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and few other areas, pipe laying works and construction of water storage tanks have been stopped in drought-hit mandals of Mahbubnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda, Khammam, Adilabad, Nizamabd and Karimnagar districts.
All the officials from the rank of Superintending Engineer (SE) to Junior Assistant have been asked to monitor regularly and arrange water tanks in the areas hit by water scarcity.
Government already earmarked Rs 80 crore for drinking water purpose in rural areas. Besides, the officials are engaged in identifying the beneficiaries for the sanctioned toilets under Swachh Bharat as the Union government has set April as deadline to complete the works.
State Advisor (RWS) Jagadishwar told The Hans India that considering the situation of the drinking water crisis, all the available 1,800 employees in the department, which already faced staff crunch, were assigned to address the issue on priority basis.
