Hyderabad: The High Court has listed three public interest litigation (PIL) petitions relating to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections for hearing on Thursday. One of PILs has challenged the amendment to Section 33 of GHMC Act.

The second one pertains to issue of 7.90 lakh bogus voters and third one reduction of statutory period for poll process. Speaking to media persons, former Minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy, who filed the PIL on Tuesday, expressed the hope that the court would decide the fate of GHMC elections on Thursday.

He said the High Court had clubbed all the three PILs because they all related to the GHMC polls. Arguments on all the three PILs would be heard together. He said the other two PILs questioned the legality of the government’s action in reducing the poll process period from 21 to 14 days and holding elections when it was found that there were 7.90 lakh bogus voters.

Shashidhar Reddy said the Congress party too had taken up the issue with the Telangana State Election Commission. He said the TRS government had amended the GHMC Act on Monday night reducing the poll process period to 14 days.

This was done only to deny the opposition parties adequate time for campaign. He said the GHMC elections should not be held unless all discrepancies were removed.
