Hyderabad: All Opposition parties welcomed the decision of the High Court on GHMC elections and claimed that it was the victory of democracy. Reacting to the decision, Congress senior leader M Shashidhar Reddy said the ruling party was trying to bulldoze everything and was undermining the democracy.

The TDP and BJP on Thursday welcomed the High Court’s verdict. BJP State president G Kishan Reddy said that the High Court's verdict was slaps to the State government. He said the government had exhibited its insecurity by reducing the GHMC election time period from 31 days to 15 days, by amending the Municipal Act. He opined that the government had acted against the spirit of the Constitution.

Kishan Reddy further said that fearing defeat in the ensuing municipal election, the TRS had been indulging in such cheap acts. He suggested Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to change his doctorial attitude and demanded that he act according to the Constitution.

Kishan Reddy also demanded that the State government hold GHMC elections with a gap of eight days after declaring the ward wise reservations in all 150 divisions.
