Sangareddy: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said that steps were being taken by the State government to address the current drinking water crisis prevailing in the district. Speaking to media persons at the District Collectorate here on Saturday, Harish Rao said there was only 0.8 TMC ft water available in Singur, out of which only 0.7 TMC ft water could be used for drinking purpose until the month of June, if used judiciously.

To prevent water from evaporating, canals would be dug through the waterway and floating pumps would be used to pour 25 cusecs of water in canals from the Singur dam every day. By doing this, he said water could be provided to Andole, Sangareddy, Sadasivpet and Narsapur constituencies.

He said within two days, Rural Water Supply, Police, Revenue and Irrigation departments would jointly inspect the entire 19 kms stretch of waterway to check the feasibility of digging canals. He said the Godavari water which was supplied to Hyderabad from Yellampalli would be diverted back to Patancheru area, providing water to 48 villages in the area.

He added that one of the defunct water schemes to provide water to Kangti and Borgi areas in Narayankhed constituency had been resumed.He said that the District Collector would also be holding a meeting with the Wildlife DFO to try and find a way to contain the crocodiles of Manjira from entering human habitations.
