Nalgonda: Members of the ruling party and the Opposition in the Nalgonda Municipal Council came down heavily on the poor sanitation and indiscriminate digging of roads by the private companies at a meeting on Tuesday.

Raising the issue of digging of roads in the town by the private telecom companies to lay optical cables in the name of 4G services, BJP Councillor Ravula Srinivas Reddy said that the roads were severely damaged in several areas in the town due to the diggings undertaken by private telecom companies. He alleged that the companies were taking up the digging works without taking permission of the Nalgonda municipality.

With the help of the police, the representatives of the companies were threatening the people and even elected representatives who raised objections on it. The municipal officials were colluding with the private telecom companies, he charged. He pointed that there were rumours that Rs 40 lakh have changed hands in this episode.

Expressing strong resentment over the performance of municipal sanitation staff, he said that the lack of supervision by Sanitary Inspectors was affecting the sanitation works and causing a lot of inconvenience to the people living in several colonies in the town. The waste collecting tractors and autos were also not coming to the colonies regularly, he added.

Another municipal councillor Mohammed Quayyum Baig said that water pipelines were also damaged in some areas due to indiscriminate diggings by private telecom companies. He alleged that cell phone towers were coming up in residential areas in the town in violation of TRAI regulations.

TDP Councillor Miryala Yadagiri alleged that several ventures were coming up in and around Nalgonda Municipality in violation of the approved plans due to failure of the Town Planning Officers to conduct inspections. The constructions going on were totally different from the plans permitted by the municipality, he added. He also urged the Municipal Commissioner to place the Town Master Plan before the Municipal Council as early as possible.

Reacting to it, the Municipal Chairperson Boddupalli Lakshmi made it clear that action would be taken against those who violate the plans of their ventures. Municipal Commissioner Mangathayaru assured them that nearly 15 layouts have been identified as illegal and action would be taken against them within a week.
