Mathaiah is one of the accused in the cash-for-vote scam where the TDP allegedly tried to bribe the nominated MLA Stephenson for his vote in the party's favour. However, ACB officials caught the TDP leaders and Stephenson after the latter informed the ACB about it. Earlier, Mathaiah filed a petition in the High Court in order to squash the inquiry against him
