The by-polls took place due to the death of sitting Congress MLA Krishna Reddy. While TRS is expected to win the Narayankhed Assembly seat, the party winning the by-polls would be the first for the ruling party to defeat Congress in a seat held by the main Opposition party that earlier won the 2014 elections
