Adilabad: A farmer in Adilabad district is all set to reap a turmeric harvest of 250 quintals an acre while a few farmers of Nizamabad district are managing to get from 100 quintals to 130 quintals an acre. Farmers in agriculturally progressive Ankapur mandal in Nizamabad district consider themselves lucky if they could harvest 50 quintals an acre. But, this Adilabad farmer surprised with the projected magic yield of 250 quintals.
Kranti Yadav of Danora village in Tansi mandal of Adilabad district proved the impossible possible. He attributed the high yield to cultivating the crop in his five-acre farm by adopting unconventional bed method. Coupled with effective crop management, application of fertilisers under the supervision of retired agriculture scientist Kishan Reddy resulted in the bumper yield.
On Saturday, he commenced digging under the supervision of Kishan Reddy and Turmeric Board officials to harvest the crop. Impressed by the achievement, farmers of Ankapur are visiting Kranti Yadav’s farm to receive suggestions. Venkat Reddy, an award-winning farmer for achieving the highest yield in turmeric, was awe-struck at Kranti Yadav’s achievement. He told The Hans India that he had never ever reached the yield achieved by Kranti Yadav. Impressed by the yield, Venkat Reddy ordered for Salem variety of turmeric seed.
A model farmer belonging to Zakranpalli Chinni Krishnudu took part in the turmeric digging operations impressed by the projected yield. Chinni Krishnudu, who earned Rs 1 lakh out of his dry turmeric crop, expressed happiness at Kranti Yadav earning Rs 4 lakh selling 62 quintals of dry turmeric. He also placed his order with Kranti Yadav for turmeric seed. The farmers have been urging the state government to supply the Salem variety of seed to farmers.
