TRS challenged for open debate on schemes progress

The TRS, which never opposed the projects initiated by the previous government, is alleging that the Congress has taken up irrigation projects to benefit its leaders and contractors. Moreover, the TRS has demanded for national status for Pranahita-Chevella project but now it has changed the entire project in the name of redesign, he pointed out.

Karimnagar: Senior Congress leader and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar invited the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders for ‘open debate’ to discuss about the progress of various schemes introduced by the Telangana government. Speaking to the reporters here on Saturday, Prabhakar said except pensions and ration cards, no other programme, introduced by the State government has crossed ten percent growth mark during the last two year period.

Moreover, the State falls into Rs one lakh crore debts due to the senseless decision taken by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. At the time of bifurcation, the united Andhra Pradesh had a debt of Rs 60,000 crore and that amount was increased to Rs 1.60 lakh crore. Reacting on Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar’s comments that Congress leaders usurped money by digging canal and tunnels in the name of irrigation projects during their regime, Prabhakar demanded the MP to withdraw his statement immediately.

‘The TRS, which never opposed the projects initiated by the previous government, is alleging that the Congress has taken up irrigation projects to benefit its leaders and contractors. Moreover, the TRS has demanded for national status for Pranahita-Chevella project but now it has changed the entire project in the name of redesign,’ he pointed out.

Except enhancing the storage capacity of minor irrigation projects like Thadakapalli and Pamulaparthi, the TRS has achieved nothing in the irrigation sector. The expenditure of the projects is likely to touch Rs 83,000 crore, he said.
