Hyderabad: Students and staff in Kendriya Vidyalaya very soon will give their daily attendance by swiping unique identity card-cum-smart cards, thanks to Shala Darpan, a Central government initiative which is likely to be implemented from the next academic year. The e-governance software, Shala Darpan would maintain the online database of every KV student in the country.

There are 11.2 lakh students studying in 1,099 Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country. With this database, management can easily get the details about any student in any KV in the country. The software would also send information about a student’s daily attendance, medical conditions and progress reports to the parent on their registered mobile number through SMS and via mail.

The software would benefit 47,500 students studying in 49 KVs of Hyderabad region. The multi-purpose card, technically called as Online Multi-domain Value (OMV), would be given to all the staff and students of KV. They can be used as an identity card, library and health card.

The programme was launched by the Human Resource Development Ministry for KVs in 2015 and the works for its implementation all over the country are underway. The software provides a single platform for all the stakeholders’ i.e students, parents, teachers and the management.

The teachers in KVS Hyderabad region are deployed for the works of Shala Darpan and are collecting the data from students. The initial data of the students like their full name with their surnames, parents name and their occupational details, child’s blood group and other medical information, details of the siblings etc are being collected in schools.

The Shala Darpan software would be helping the students for utilizing of online and offline library resources. The teachers with this software can notify about the assignments and can share the study materials and reference books online. The software also provides the services to the KV staff by monitoring their attendance, recruitment details and other information of postings, appraisals, allowance and pensions.

KVS Hyderabad regional office deputy commissioner D Manivannam said that they cannot comment on the current status and said that the programme would be implemented shortly. “We need instructions from KVS headquarters for its implementation,” he said.
